New Hope Sustainable Community, Berea Kentucky

A food and energy self-sufficient retirement community near Berea, KY that was to be funded by retirees and built and maintained by a cooperative structure of younger participants. The design and calculations of the unique out-of-season annual cycle energy system were funded with a grant from the Kentucky Department of Energy. Many of the energy and participatory aspects of more recent urban studies by the CSC Design Studio were pioneered in the New Hope project.
